Strengthens and Brightens for Soft, Glowing Skin
FAQs about Vitamin C in skincare productsHere are some of the most frequently asked questions about Vitamin C in skincare products
Benefits
- What does Vitamin C do for my skin?
- Brightening: Fades hyperpigmentation evens skin tone, and gives a radiant glow.
- Antioxidant: Protects against free radical damage caused by pollution and UV rays.
- Boosts collagen: Promotes firmer, plumper-looking skin
- Hydration: Helps skin retain moisture for a smoother texture
Forms of Vitamin C
- What are the different types of Vitamin C in skincare?
- L-Ascorbic Acid: Most potent, well-researched form, but also potentially more irritating.
- Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (SAP): Gentler, water-soluble, good for sensitive skin.
- Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate (MAP): Gentle, good for acne-prone skin.
- Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate: Oil-soluble, highly stable
- Which form is best for me? This depends on your skin type and concerns. Sensitive skin may be better suited to SAP or MAP. If you're targeting significant discoloration, L-ascorbic acid might be better.
Using Vitamin C
- Can I use Vitamin C with other skincare ingredients?
- Yes, BUT: Avoid mixing it directly with retinol, niacinamide (in some cases), or AHAs/BHAs. This can decrease the effectiveness of these ingredients or increase irritation.
- Vitamin C + Vitamin E + Ferulic Acid: This combination offers enhanced antioxidant protection.
- When should I apply it in my routine? Usually, it's recommended in the morning after cleansing and toning, followed by moisturizer and sunscreen.
- How often should I use it? Start with 2-3 times a week and gradually increase frequency as tolerated.
Stability and Storage
- Does Vitamin C oxidize? Yes, especially L-ascorbic acid. Look for products in opaque, airtight packaging to minimize exposure to light and air.
- How do I know if my Vitamin C has oxidized? It will often turn a yellow or orange color. Oxidized products are less effective and could potentially irritate.
- Where should I store my Vitamin C product? A cool, dark place away from sunlight is ideal. Some even choose to store it in the refrigerator.
Additional FAQs
- Can Vitamin C cause breakouts? Some people may experience purging when they first start using it. This is temporary as the skin adjusts. If irritation persists, discontinue use.
- Will Vitamin C make my skin more sensitive to the sun? While a powerful antioxidant, it's not a replacement for sunscreen. ALWAYS wear sunscreen when using Vitamin C.

BENEFITS of Bare Skin Care Luminous C: In keeping with producing products with the best ingredients that are the MOST ACTIVE, our new Vit C Serum has Three (3) elements of the Vitamin - water soluble, oil soluble, and an ester of C - sort of a triple threat. You will love it!
Luminous C is one of the strongest Vitamin C Serums available. Most Vitamin C products are not stable and lose potency quickly. Even if it says 20% C, most products do not deliver this because of losing their potency! Not so with Bare Skin Care Luminous C!
Ascorbic Acid (L) Chiral - an antioxidant that works to help strengthen collagen properties and has the potential to address defense and brightening activities, providing actions that also help to soften the appearance of fine lines, while promoting benefits that help smooth the appearance of skin texture.
Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate Water soluble derivative and stable form of Vitamin C, utilized as an antioxidant, radical scavenger, and helps to support natural collagen performance and melanin inhibiting properties (brightening effect).
BV-OSC (Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate) Oil soluble form of Vitamin C, consists of antioxidant and brightening properties, addresses the support of natural collagen synthesis, additional ingredient activities help inhibit Matrix Metalloproteinase
(MMPi) and promote defense properties, while addressing the softening
of redness possibly caused by inflamed skin.
Tocopheryl Acetate (D-alpha) Chiral, ester of D-alpha Tocopherol (Vitamin E), possesses improved oxidative stability, antioxidant helps to guard from oxidative stress.
ADDITIONAL TIP: Add niacinamide to your routine to improve results. Niacinamide works synergically with the vitamin to give you the best results in terms of brightening and reducing the appearance of pores. BARE Retinaldehyde "A" Serum contains niacinamide.
