It seems we are finally getting the message about health, at least in the US. Healthy habits prolong life and make living more enjoyable.

The US National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH), of the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) issued a report that identifies trends of dietary supplementation among American adults.

The report reflects data collected on 88,962 Americans, ages 18 and older, enrolled in the National Health Interview Survey (three time points, namely – 2002, 2007, and 2012).   Use of fish oil, probiotics or prebiotics, and melatonin increased among American adults, between 2007 and 2012.  As well, usage of yoga, tai chi, and qi gong among adults increased linearly across the three time points.

  1. Probiotics are live bacteria and yeasts that are good for your health, especially your digestive system. We usually think of bacteria as something that causes diseases. But your body is full of bacteria, both good and bad. Probiotics are often called "good" or "helpful" bacteria because they help keep your gut healthy.

Personally, I prefer Flaxseed (ground) to fish oil. It contains the same necessary Omega-3 fatty acids as fish oil, but gives the added benefit of protecting against colon cancer while eliminating constipation.
