Following excerpted from Dr. Andrew Weil:

Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant and an essential nutrient, meaning our bodies can't make it and we must obtain it from our diets. Specifically, vitamin C:

  1. Plays a central role in the repair and regeneration of tissues.
  2. Helps protect cells from everyday oxidative stress throughout the body.
  3. May support healthy immune function.

Getting vitamin C through your diet is easy - food sources are abundant and can be enjoyed all year long: try increasing your intake of broccoli, cantaloupe, kiwi, oranges, peppers, pineapple, pink grapefruit and strawberries. Supplemental vitamin C is another option - I suggest a vitamin C supplement derived from d-glucose, taken with a meal to reduce any stomach irritation.

My take: Vitamin C supplements are not always absorbed fully. One only absorbs 200 mg at a time, while the rest is flushed by the kidney. So taking a 1000 mg tablet is somewhat of a waste.

I remember the story told by prominent physician who said the best way to take vitamin C is in powdered form. The powder is white, and gets better absorption. He recommended taking it 5 times a day. One day in his office, the first patient looked at him a little "funny". As did the next one. So he went into his office, looked in the mirror, and saw the white powder on his upper lip. He hurried back and explained it was not cocaine, just vitamin C.

Bare Skin Care has a very potent Vitamin C for the skin, Natural Young C Serum. This elegant serum has wonderful benefits for every skin type! It contains a therapeutic 15% strength of Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), amino acids, and a potent combination of Phytoalexins, which are anti-oxidants. Amino-acids are the proteins which are important building blocks of the skin tissue. This potent complex stimulates collagen generation, moisturizes the skin, provides photo-protection, helps to prevent UV immuno-suppression, strengthens and protects the skin from free radicals. It also has the added bonus of naturally brightening the skin tone. Best Results are obtained when used in combination with Bare Skin Care Anti-Aging Serum.
