As we age, the skin becomes dry and papery thin due to a decrease in oil gland activity. This is mostly a function of hormonal decline, and is best treated with a hormone replacement regimen.

When do I need hormones, you might ask. Since many symptoms in the menopause are similar to those due to other problems, the best way is scientific by obtaining an FSH blood test (Follicle Stimulating Hormone). In the menopause, this becomes elevated. Essentially this hormone comes from the Pituitary gland, and when estrogen drops (like in the menopause), this hormone increases to cause the secretion of estrogen. The problem lies that in menopause, the ovary is no longer able to secrete estrogen, and the FSH becomes elevated beyond normal levels.

My recommendations for hormonal replacement:

  • Use natural, not synthetic, agents; these natural agents are by prescription only, and not something available in your grocery store
  • Select bio-identical hormones, which the body is able to use safely and efficiently; they are the exact same hormones that your body makes when younger, and thus the term "bio-identical"
  • Prescribe proper dosing (as stipulated by laboratory testing for deficits), not supra-physiologic dosing or homeopathic doses
  • Conduct regular follow-up office visits and lab tests, to monitor progress.

In addition to hormone replacement, the best way to fix THIN SKIN is by using Bare Skin Care products. All of our Bare Skin Care programs contain all the ingredients necessary for bringing the skin back to health, improving texture and normal secretion, which makes thin skin thicker and thick skin normal - in addition to improving dryness.

Two obvious things from this picture. The first woman did not use hormones, and the second woman is probably using Bare Skin Care.
