Being a strong tennis advocate, I can't help but notice the amount of wraps, tapes, braces, etc. over many parts of the body in the average person playing tennis. It is almost like the walking wounded.

We are all getting older, every day. And osteoarthritis is one of the main causes of our aces and pains as we age. So anything that can help this problem is of significant benefit, especially in our aging population.

The following is recent information about eggshell membrane and it's preventive effect on the pain of osteoarthritis. (Yes, eggshell membrane is available in stores in pills - you don't have to actually eat eggshells).

The following is a summary of a recent article:

"Abundant in protein and glucosamine, chondroitin sulfate, hyaluronic acid, and collagen – compounds associated with joint health, eggshell membrane is emerging as a contender to alleviate symptoms of osteoarthritis.  German researchers enrolled 44 men and women with osteoarthritis affecting the knee and/or hip, ages 32 to 95 years, in a study in which each received daily supplementation of eggshell membrane (500 mg) for 8 weeks, and reported changes in pain and discomfort of their osteoarthritis.  After supplementing with eggshell membrane for 30- and 60-days, subjects averaged 35.6% improvement in 9 of 10 daily activities.  The study authors observe that: “Supplementation … significantly reduced pain, both rapidly (10 days) and continuously (60 days) demonstrating that it is a safe and effective therapeutic option for the treatment of pain associated with osteoarthritis of the knee and/or hip.”

It's certainly worth a try if you have any arthritic pain - which most people over age 55 have.
